Walk into any RH Gallery and you understand within seconds why the brand has become the reference point for high-end American interiors. Deep, linen-covered sofas. Solid oak that looks like it has been there for a century. Chandeliers made of hand-shaped glass. Teak outdoor sets that could furnish a Mediterranean villa. Designers call it the RH look, and homeowners, hotels and developers around the world ask for it by name.

The catch is the price, and the lead time. That is where a furniture sourcing agent comes in. At Morefar Global, we spend our days inside Chinese furniture factories. Over more than ten years we have learned which workshops can deliver the materials, construction and finishing that define RH-level quality. We do not sell copies of RH products. We help you find comparable pieces in the same design language, built to a similar standard, and we manage everything from sampling and inspection to consolidation and shipping.

This guide explains what RH is, what actually makes its furniture good, and how we find pieces that come close, with real catalog and workshop photos from our supplier network.

1. Who is RH?

RH began life as Restoration Hardware. In 1979, Stephen Gordon opened a small store in Eureka, California, selling period hardware and fixtures to people restoring old houses. Over four decades it grew into one of the most influential luxury home brands in the world.

  • 1979: Founded by Stephen Gordon in Eureka, California, as a hardware store for home restorers.
  • 2001: Gary Friedman, formerly of Williams-Sonoma, becomes CEO and repositions the company toward luxury home furnishings.
  • 2012: The company completes an IPO and rebrands as RH (NYSE: RH).
  • 2015 onward: RH opens restaurants inside its galleries, starting with the 3 Arts Club Café in Chicago, and turns showrooms into destinations.
  • 2022–2023: RH opens its first hotel, RH Guesthouse New York, and its first gallery outside North America, RH England at Aynhoe Park.
  • Today: Annual revenue of about US$3 billion (fiscal 2023), around 84 locations, and collections spanning furniture, lighting, textiles, outdoor, RH Modern, and RH Baby & Child.

RH no longer behaves like a retailer. Its galleries are multi-storey mansions with rooftop restaurants and wine bars, and its catalogs (the famous “source books”) run to hundreds of pages. The message is consistent: timeless design, natural materials, and furniture built to last.

2. See the quality for yourself

Before talking about materials and construction, it helps to see how RH presents its own work. These official RH films are worth a few minutes of any buyer’s time. Notice the scale of the pieces, the texture of the materials, and how much attention goes into finishing.

3. What “RH-level quality” actually means

RH’s appeal is not one secret. It is a collection of choices that show up in every piece. When we source comparable furniture, these are the standards we hold suppliers to.

Honest, heavyweight materials

Solid oak, walnut and reclaimed timber instead of thin veneers over particleboard. Real travertine and marble. Grade-A teak for outdoor pieces. Linen, bouclé and performance fabrics with real weight. The pieces look heavy because they are heavy.

Construction you do not see

Kiln-dried hardwood frames, proper joinery, reinforced corner blocks and high-resilience foam wrapped in down or fibre. This is what keeps a sofa from sagging after two years and a dining chair from loosening at the joints.

Layered, hand-applied finishes

RH finishes are rarely a single coat of lacquer. Wire-brushed oak, weathered and lime-washed surfaces, hand-rubbed brass and burnished metals are built up in several steps, which is what gives them their depth in natural light.

Generous scale and quiet colour

Deep seats, wide arms, oversized chandeliers, and a restrained palette of greige, ivory, oatmeal, charcoal and natural wood. Nothing is loud, and everything is a little bigger than you expect.

4. Indoor furniture: comparable pieces from our network

Our partner workshops produce living, dining and bedroom collections in the same design language: natural-oak casegoods with fluted fronts, slipcovered and track-arm sofas, sculptural lounge chairs, travertine and stone tables. The images below come from partner factories’ catalogs. Every piece can be adjusted in size, fabric, wood tone and finish.

Halx collection (Jiangsu). A second group of partner factories supplies beds, nightstands, dining tables, dining chairs and coffee tables. Their catalogs list MOQ of one piece and fully customisable styles, sizes, materials and colours. That matters for villa owners and designers furnishing one project, not a chain of stores.

5. Lighting: crystal, glass and hand-finished brass

Lighting is where the RH look is most recognisable, and where cheap imitations are most obvious. The difference is in the glass and the metal: thick, clear glass with real weight, brass that is finished rather than plated, and proportions designed for double-height rooms.

The lighting factory in our network produces pendants, chandeliers, linear fixtures and sconces in this style. Specifications are drawn up in inches for the North American market. Typical options include:

  • Glass-drop pendants and cluster chandeliers, with 5″ × 11″ solid glass drops on adjustable brass rods up to 18 feet.
  • Faceted crystal sputnik and globe chandeliers in burnished brass or dark bronze.
  • Single- and double-ring chandeliers with cylindrical glass or alabaster-style shades, from 36″ to 60″ diameter.
  • Matching sconces and linear fixtures so a whole project can be lit in one consistent finish.

6. Outdoor furniture: teak, aluminium and rope

RH Outdoor set the template for modern luxury patio furniture: chunky teak frames, deep cushions in weatherproof fabric, and furniture that looks as good on a terrace as in a living room. Our outdoor partner is a specialist in high-end outdoor furniture for residential and hospitality projects, at home and abroad. Its three series cover most of the RH Outdoor vocabulary:

  • Original Series: teak imported from South America, waterproof fabric and high-density foam cushions. Sofas run from 183 cm to 274 cm, with matching lounge chairs, dining sets and chaises.
  • Art & Design Series: sculptural teak and aluminium pieces with fluted bases, wraparound arms and wide sun loungers.
  • Classic Series: aluminium frames with Tiger powder coating, wrapped in hand-woven outdoor rope. Light, weather-resistant and ideal for hotels and pool decks.

7. Inside the workshop: real photos, no renderings

Catalog images are useful, but buyers rightly want to see the real thing. These unretouched photos were taken on the factory floor of a partner workshop in Hai’an, Jiangsu Province, outside the Foshan furniture cluster where most buyers start. Look at the stone, the veneer matching, the upholstery tension and the finish on the curved pieces. This is the level of craftsmanship we look for.

8. Comparable, not copies: our position

Why we do not sell “RH replicas” RH’s designs and trademarks belong to RH. Selling counterfeits puts buyers at risk: goods seized at customs, legal claims, and products that look right in photos but fail in use. Morefar Global sources original and generic designs in the same style, built to a comparable quality standard. You get the look, the materials and the durability, under your own brand or none at all. We never use RH names, logos or labels on the products we source. If a factory offers “the exact RH piece”, we treat that as a warning sign, not a selling point.

10. How Morefar Global works

Morefar Global is a China-based furniture and building-materials sourcing agent with an office in Guangzhou and more than ten years in the industry. Our team has an engineering and factory-floor background, so we know where quality problems start and how to stop them. A typical RH-style project runs like this:

  1. Brief. Send us your inspiration images, RH product links or a floor plan. We clarify sizes, materials, finishes, quantities and budget.
  2. Match. We search our supplier database for workshops that already build in that style, then send you comparable options with factory-direct pricing.
  3. Sample & visit. We arrange samples, finish panels and fabric swatches. You can visit the factories with us in person, or join a video walk-through.
  4. Quality control. Our inspectors check materials before production, during production, and before every shipment. You receive photo and video reports at each stage.
  5. Consolidate & ship. We consolidate goods from many suppliers (furniture, lighting, outdoor, even building materials) in our warehouse, and ship in one container to your door.
